Keanu Reeves is opening up about his role in Apple TV’s Outcome. The movie, which is directed by Jonah Hill and set to be released on the streaming platform April 10, centers on a Hollywood actor facing a public image crisis.
In an effort to clear his reputation, he goes on an apology tour meant for all the people he has wronged in the past. Turns out, it’s a long list. “It’s a wonderful role,” Reeves told AP News on April 6 during the film’s premiere (per No Intervals.) “He feels like he’s unraveling,” he said of his character, “so that’s good fun. It’s good for the storytelling, and there’s so many aspects to friendship in the film, and kind of redemption.”
It isn’t a coincidence that Hill chose to cast Reeves as a “hated” celebrity, since the John Wick star is widely beloved by the masses. The Superbad alum explained his decision to cast Reeves for the part, telling AP News, “I thought, ‘Who is the person you least want to see get in trouble, because they’re so beloved? Keanu Reeves was the first person I thought of.”
Fans were quick to address the choice to cast Reeves as an unlikable figure, given his real-life adoration. Taking to the YouTube comments section for Outcome trailer, audiences expressed their thoughts.
“Casting Keanu Reeves as a guy everyone hates is insane level confidence,” one person wrote, garnering over 5 thousand likes.
“This movie is trying to convince me that Keanu Reeves is an unlikeable guy, and that’s probably the most unrealistic aspect of it,” chimed in another.
“Who would hate Reeves? He's the nicest guy in Hollywood!” a commenter wrote.
