Grey’s Anatomy fans are rejoicing over the news that longtime character Owen Hunt, played by Kevin McKidd, will be exiting the show after the season 22 finale. The news was announced on March 25, when series creator Shonda Rhimes told Deadline that Owen and Teddy (Kim Raver) are no longer going to be series regulars after over a decade of screen time.
While fans are upset to see Teddy go, most can’t say the same about Owen. When the Grey’s Anatomy official Instagram page posted a snapshot of McKidd and Raver, including their exit announcement in the caption, the comments section flooded with fans celebrating Owen’s removal from the medical drama.
“Okay first of all Owen Hunt ain't brought nothing but trauma and chaos to ‘Grey's’,” one commenter wrote, garnering over 3 thousand likes.
“This is the best ‘Grey’s’ news in YEARS,” said another.
“Not Teddy… the world is happy about Owen, but i love me some Teddy,” wrote a fan.
“IS OWEN FINALLY GONE?” a commenter chimed in.
As for McKidd and Raver, the actors have expressed nothing but gratitude for their time on Grey’s Anatomy. While McKidd has been a series regular since season 5, Raver joined the show in season 6.
McKidd said in a statement via Deadline on March 25, “Grey’s Anatomy has been a huge chapter of my life, creatively and personally, and I’m deeply grateful for everything the show has given me over the years.”
Meanwhile, Raver said, “Playing Dr. Teddy Altman will always hold a dear and special place in my heart.”
Rhimes also offered a warm goodbye for both the characters on her long-running medical drama and actors McKidd and Raver. Despite the fact that they won’t be returning for season 23 of the show, Rhimes told Deadline that the pair will get the “happy ending” they deserve.
