Even Grey’s Anatomy fans aren’t looking forward to another season of the TV show. The ABC series, which premiered in 2005, is the longest-running medical drama on television, recently celebrating 21 years on air.

But according to fans of the show, the Shonda Rhimes series should’ve ended years ago. When the official Instagram page for Grey’s Anatomy posted a video skit on March 30 announcing the news for season 23, the comments section flooded with fans saying the show needs to be axed, once and for all.

“Y’all need to stop…please,” one commenter wrote on the Instagram post, garnering over 13 thousand likes.

“Dr. Webber trying to retire but y’all won’t let him,” another chimed in, acquiring 36 thousand likes.

“I was a kid when this show started and now I've got two of my own,” another wrote, adding, “Please stop guys. Let Dr. Webber retire for god's sake.”

Other fans took to the /GreysAnatomy subreddit to discuss their frustration with the medical drama’s continuation after 21 years on the ABC network. When a Reddit user posted a Deadline article from March 30, which announced a season 23 of Grey’s Anatomy, many commenters expressed annoyance rather than excitement.

“Ellen barely wants to be there. This horse died years ago. Let it rest in peace,” a commenter wrote.

“At this point this is a threat,” joked another.

“Please…. god put it out of its misery,” someone added.

Despite the predominantly negative reaction from fans over the season 23 renewal announcement, Grey’s Anatomy continues to remain one of the most successful shows on TV. In fact, it is often ranked as the number 1 most streamed show on Hulu (per Collider).

Be sure to tune in for brand new episodes of Grey’s Anatomy, airing Thursday at 10 pm ET.
