IShowSpeed is closing out his viral Africa tour with an unexpected honor: official citizenship of Ghana.
The streaming star recently completed a month-long, livestreamed journey across the continent that brought millions of viewers along for cultural experiences in nearly 20 countries.
As the tour neared its end, Ghanaian officials announced that they had approved a passport for the 21-year-old.
Ghana Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa shared the decision publicly on Facebook, praising Speed for representing Ghana and Africa to a global audience.
According to Ablakwa, the approval followed confirmation of Speed's personal ties to the country, as he mentioned while streaming from Ghana that his mother is Ghanaian.
"I am pleased to inform you and our compatriots that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has approved the issuance of a Ghanaian Passport to IShowSpeed. Keep making our great nation Ghana, and our beloved African continent proud," Ablakwa said.
Ghana has increasingly worked to reconnect with people of African descent across the globe. In 2024 alone, the country granted citizenship to hundreds of members of the diaspora, including high-profile figures such as legendary singer Stevie Wonder.
During his visit, the streamer embraced local culture, including participating in a naming ritual in Ghana's eastern region and receiving a massage from 10 Ghanaian women.
Throughout his 28-day trip, Speed visited Nigeria, South Africa, Morocco, theIvory Coast, and several other nations. Along the way, he raced a cheetah and danced with members of the Maasai community.
The tour also marked major personal milestones for the creator. He celebrated his 21st birthday in Lagos, where fans surprised him during a livestream, and saw continued growth of his already massive platform, which now exceeds 50 million YouTube subscribers.
