Alexa Demie is comfortable with her “level” of fame, although that may change following the finale of the hit HBO show Euphoria.
In a profile in The Hollywood Reporter, Demie, who plays Maddy Perez on Euphoria, confirms she’s seen all of the opinions on her relatively lowkey stardom as sent to her by friends, and she’s content with where she is.
“It’s like, did you ever think that I don’t want it?” she said of her status in Hollywood. “People really take the authority out of your hands. What happened to my ability to choose? I like my life like this, and I wouldn’t change it.”
Demie also expressed gratitude for her breakout role as Perez, propelling her into a spotlight that is at odds with her more private self. “If I didn’t have that experience, I’d be hiding up there like Enya,” she explained, gesturing to the Hollywood hills, similar to how singer Enya famously lives in a large, secluded mansion. “But that life is always there for me, and what I’m learning is that I can have both.”
In other news, Demie also confirmed she’s not retiring from acting. The unverified rumors were taken out of context from an interview she did on The A24 Podcast where she complained to Nathan Fielder that early in her career, the actress was disheartened by being passed over in favor of white actresses.
