Zara Larsson appeared on the April 22 episode of Call Her Daddy to promote her upcoming remix album. During the episode, the 28-year-old spoke about the inspiration behind her song “Girl’s Girl.” It was based on the time she kissed her best friend’s boyfriend when she was a teenager.
Larsson explained that she was at a New Year's Eve party when her friend’s boyfriend, who she was “really interested in” started kissing her. "I just kissed him back because I was messy like that,” she said. “And I was 16 and really drunk."
She continued, "The f---ed up thing about this though, was that the girl whose [house] we had had the party at, she filmed this, and I didn't know. So before I got the chance to tell my friend what happened the next day, she had already got the video sent to her."
She went on to say, "But obviously seeing [the video], she just cut me off, and all my friends just cut me off, and I was just like a floating piece of trash in the universe.” She claimed she didn’t speak to the friend for four years after the incident.
The song that she wrote about the experience has lyrics like, “You're with somebody else. I know that girl since we were ten and twelve. Yes, I'm aware, but I don't care 'cause temptation is getting to me. I wanna be a girl's girl but what happens when a girl's girl wants the boy? I know that she's my friend, but I just can't avoid the way I feel about you, if I had the choice you'd be all minе.”
As reported by People, Larsson is releasing a new remix album Midnight Sun: Girls Trip on May 1. In it, she collabs with artists like Shakira, PinkPantheress, and Robyn.
