18-year-old Xavier Trudeau appeared on the April 8 episode of the Can’t Be Censored podcast. Xavier, who goes by the stage name Xav, opened up about his father, Justin Trudeau, dating pop star Katy Perry.
“When I’m really happy with a song [I] send it [to her],” the young musician said. “She’s always happy to give me advice or tell me what I should change.”
Xav is an R&B singer who released his debut single, “Til The Nights Done,” in February 2025. His sister, Ella-Grace Trudeau, provided backing vocals for the track.
During the podcast, Xav went on to admit that he has gotten to know Perry over the last few months and has a good relationship with her. “She’s super nice,” he said. “She’s super down to earth. She’s great. I think that my dad’s happy so that’s important.”
“My life is so crazy sometimes,” Xav continued. “I’m like, What is my life? What the hell? I just laugh. The reality of it is, it’s my life. What can I do? What can I change?”
Xav also spoke about how he’s used to the spotlight because of his father’s career in politics. Although he’s been told not to read the comments, it’s not always possible. “The hate, it gets to me sometimes,” he admitted. “I guess it’s built into my brain, I think of it as when someone comments on my video, when someone shares my video, when someone likes it, it just helps me.”
Perry and the former prime minister were first rumored to be dating in July 2025. In October, they were captured kissing by paparazzi. The couple drew even more attention on Halloween, when Justin wore a Left Shark costume, referencing Perry’s iconic Super Bowl halftime show. Since then, the pair have been more open about their relationship, posting photos on social media.
