Project Hail Mary, the blockbuster film based on the bestselling Andy Weir book, has already brought in more than $150 million worldwide. LEGO has already released an official Project Hail Mary LEGO set inspired by the spaceship from the film. It includes a minifigure of Rocky, a fan-favorite character who has exploded in popularity. However, some fans are interested in making a larger version of the character that they can display around their home.
Jordan DeVries, a LEGO creator, posted on social media earlier this week, saying, “Can’t get Project Hail Mary off my brain, so I turned a ~$15 official LEGO set into a Rocky space friend of my very own. Fully jazz hands capable. Build your own with instructions below.”
Thanks to DeVries, it’s easy to create your own version of Rocky out of LEGO bricks. All you need is the official Cute Bunny set, which typically costs around $20. No extra parts are needed. In fact, you’ll have about half of the Cute Bunny pieces left over when you are finished, which you can use to create other characters.
Instructions on Rebrickable will explain the exact steps to take to build Rocky. Rebrickable is a helpful site that allows users to post fan-designed creations, giving each other ideas on how to reuse their old LEGO bricks to create something fresh and new. The site also contains instructions on building different types of Pokémon, Transformers, and Star Wars ships.
Since DeVries has posted the instructions for his DIY Project Hail Mary LEGO set, there have been dozens of people who have copied the build, creating their own Rocky out of bricks. The creature has five articulated arms and a sturdy core. It stands at 3.7 inches tall, making it perfect for displaying on shelves.
Project Hail Mary is playing in theaters now.
