Juliette Lewis, the renowned actress who starred in Yellowjackets and Natural Born Killers, is entering the world of fashion. She has collaborated with the brand Wildfang to create a clothing collection. As she explained on the April 9 episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, the line includes tees with her mugshot on them.
When asked whether it was a real mugshot, Lewis explained that the shot was taken when she was a teenager. "Yes, this is a mugshot because we all have a past,” she said. “All I did was try to go dancing, but the club did not have its liquor license, so the cops busted the club."
Although they promised to let anyone under 18 go free, Lewis explained, "They didn't let us go, so we get handcuffed in the backseat of a car. I was living on my own at the time, paying rent, paying taxes, and I was quite precocious with the cop. I was like, 'You mean, I can pay taxes, but I can't go dancing?' He kinda rolled his eyes at me."
Wildfang CEO, Emma Mcilroy, discussed the collection with Forbes. "Juliette made massive design decisions and directed the design from concept through the entire thing," she said. "She had her hands on it, from the very first meeting where we said, 'Here's who Wildfang is, and here's what we're all about.' And she was like, ‘Oh my God, we have to use my mugshot.’ And we were like, 'What? You have a mugshot?'”
Lewis plans to use the proceeds from the collection to fund her rock and roll career. She released two albums as a member of Juliette and the Licks in 2005 and 2006. She is also making her Broadway debut soon. She’ll be playing Magenta in revival of The Rocky Horror Show.
