Back in February, the internet came up with a conspiracy that it wasn’t the real Jim Carrey who took the stage to accept the Honorary César during the 51st annual César Awards in Paris. People were speculating that since his physical appearance looked slightly different, he must have been an impersonator, a man in a mask, or even a clone.
Carrey’s ex Jenny McCarthy is finally addressing the viral rumors, telling People that it was definitely him on stage. “He looked very happy at that award show,” she said. “And I was happy for him. That’s the first thing I noticed. I said, ‘Oh wow, Jim looks really happy.’”
Her husband of 11 years, Donnie Wahlberg, added, “You know, that’s the part that, sadly, people miss. We’re so obsessed with how he looks that we didn’t consider how happy he looked.”
The organizer of the event, Gregory Caulier, also shut down the rumors about an impersonator back in March. In a statement to Variety, he said, “Jim Carrey’s visit has been planned since this summer. From the outset, he was extremely touched by the Academy’s invitation. Eight months of ongoing, constructive discussions. He worked on his speech in French for months, asking me about the exact pronunciation of certain words.” He went on to say, “I just remember his generosity, his kindness, his benevolence, his elegance.”
McCarthy and Carrey dated for five years, from 2005 to 2010. When they split, she said, “I’m so grateful for the years Jim and I shared together. I will continue to be in his daughter’s life and will always keep Jim as a leading man in my heart.”
When discussing the split, Carrey posted on social media, stating, "I'm grateful for the many blessings we've shared and I wish her the very best! S'okay!"
