In the February 25 episode of Call Her Daddy, Hilary Duff referred to Lindsay Lohan as her “childhood nemesis” since they both dated Aaron Carter around the same time. During the interview, Duff recalled the night when she crashed the Freaky Friday premiere with Chad Michael Murray, who she was filming A Cinderella Story with at the time.
“Chad Michael Murray invited me,” she explained. “I don't want to start any more stuff, but, like, he was like, ‘You should come with me.’ And I was like, ‘Probably I should.’” Later in the year, Lohan crashed the Cheaper by the Dozen premiere in retaliation.
During an appearance on Virgin Radio Toronto's Daryn & Deepa Mornings (March 25), Murray spoke about the incident, saying, "I didn't know there was a feud. How was I supposed to know there was a feud? I found out quickly after."
When asked why he brought Duff to the premiere, he explained that they had been trying to spend more time together so that they both felt comfortable when they filmed the big finale at the end of the Cinderella adaptation. "We had a big kissing sequence,” he said. “And they wanted our characters to kind of get to know each other."
However, they didn’t have much free time, so he brought Duff along to the Los Angeles premiere of Freaky Friday. “I didn't understand that there was drama or that that would even cause a thing,” he said. "Nowadays, I can understand that we're so in the know with social media that you're like, 'Oh, if you do that, it's obvious.’ Back then, it wasn't obvious that it was a thing. I just thought two people are going to go hang out, cool. It's awesome. It wasn't anything."
However, the feud between the two women is in their past. According to Duff, "Lindsay came up to me at a club once and was like, 'Are we good?' And I was like, 'We're good.' She was like, 'Let's take a shot.' I was like, 'OK.' It was amazing."
