On April 18, a California couple was met with some unexpected visitors. They arrived in a blue balloon with gold stars and a crescent moon printed on it. However, the homeowners didn’t even know what was happening at first.
Hunter Perrin said that he was busy watching television with absolutely no idea that a hot air balloon had just landed in his backyard. When a neighbor rang his doorbell to tell him, he ran outside to see the scene for himself.
“I get a doorbell ring and I open the door and the guy goes, ‘They just landed in your backyard!’ I’m like, ‘Uhh what?’” he explained in an interview with ABC News affiliate KABC.
His partner, Jenna Perrin, added, “I heard the flames, but I thought it was somebody that was like, cleaning the inside of their pool. That’s what it sounded like. But then I look out and I’m like, ‘That’s what I heard, it was the flames that I heard.’ And once we saw that it was all smiles and everybody was happy and okay… I’m like, should I make them breakfast?”
The pilot explained that the wind in the area had died down, making it impossible to move. He had been hovering in the area, waiting for the wind to pick up and transport their balloon farther to finish the ride. However, that never happened. Since fuel levels were running low, the pilot had to make an emergency landing and their yard was the safest spot to touch down, even though it was only about 10 feet wide.
No one was hurt in the incident and the balloon made it off of the property in one piece. After a while, they managed to get it airborne again and walked it around the front of the house. Then a truck came to pick it up.
