Lush recently released a Yoshi-themed bath bomb to promote The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which is coming out on April 1. However, the reception to the product has been mixed, drawing negative attention in videos posted to TikTok and Facebook.
One video with over 475,000 likes and 2,000 comments is captioned: “We got the Giant Yoshi bath bomb from Lush and now our kids are traumatized forever.”
Before being submerged in water, this fragrant bath bomb made from orange and lemon oil is shaped like a traditional white Yoshi egg with green spots. Hidden inside of the product, there are collectible shower gummies that resemble power-ups from iconic Mario games, including green mushrooms, golden coins, and red fire flowers. While customers seem to enjoy the eggs packed with mushrooms and coins, the red fire flower version is drawing attention for all the wrong reasons.
When the product is dropped into the bath, the color associated with the power-up pours out of the egg. This means the fire flower version starts seeping out red liquid, accidentally making the bathtub resemble a scene from a horror movie.
A Facebook video that shows this bath bomb in action has gained 1.8 million views. The commenters are in agreement that red was a bad color choice for the product, wondering why the egg looks like it’s bleeding. As one user said: “Imagine giving this to your kid and five minutes into bath time you hear them crying because they think they killed Yoshi?” Another parent said: "I was going to buy one for my kiddo until I saw all the red. That'd traumatize him."
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will feature fan-favorite character, Yoshi, for the first time after he was teased in the original film by showing the iconic, bath bomb-inspired egg. He is being voiced by Donald Glover.
