The Boys is returning on April 8 for its fifth and final season.
Since the story is coming to a close, fans are expecting the main villain, Homelander, to finally get taken down. However, the showrunner, Eric Kripke, just made a few statements that debunk a popular fan theory.
Many viewers have predicted that Marie Moreau from the spin-off series, Gen V, would be the one to finally take down Homelander, since she is so powerful with her blood-bending abilities. However, Kripke told SFX Magazine: “Gen V is not required viewing.” That suggests it’s unlikely Marie will be the one to defeat Homelander, since viewers who have only watched the original series haven’t seen her beyond a few brief appearances.
Kripke also stated: “People should be prepared for the Gen V kids to not come in and save the season. We’ve been following The Boys for five years, and it’s time to bring that story to a head. I’m not here to make some crazy Marvel multiverse. I want to end that story well."
In the past, Kripke has also spoken about the ending of the series, saying: “Marie’s still young, and just because she’s incredibly powerful doesn’t mean she has perfect control over it. There’s a journey. She’s not Neo at the end of The Matrix. Those become bummer, boring Messiah characters, and she’s not that. She’s still a person and has a hard time wrestling with the amount of power that she’s finding herself to have.”
The Boys might be coming to an end soon, but there are still plenty of spinoff shows to enjoy. Vought Rising is in the works, a prequel series set in the 1950s that will follow Soldier Boy and Stormfront. There is also Gen V, The Boys Presents: Diabolical, and The Boys: Mexico.
