Super Mario Galaxy Age Rating Leak Has Fans Convinced a 20-Year-Old Theory Is Canon

A recent age-rating leak for the Super Mario Galaxy movie has fans convinced a 20-year-old theory about Peach and Rosalina could be canon.

The upcoming Super Mario Galaxy Movie has been making some serious waves in the cosmos, as the recent age-rating leak appears to hint at a fan theory that is nearly two decades in the making.

According to the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC), the film’s rating description contains a very niche-specific plot detail that points directly to the highly debated origin of both Rosalina and her connection to Princess Peach.

A Flashback to Remember

The BBFC recently awarded the Super Mario Galaxy Movie a PG rating for "mild violence" and "threat." While that information is helpful, the real meat and potatoes are found within the "Theme" section of the rating. The revelation has sent Mario fans into a frenzy, adding fire to the flames of this debate once again.

The board mentions "infrequent very mild upsetting scenes," specifically citing "flashbacks to the separation of a girl and her younger sister." Many fans have concluded that this must mean the girl and younger sister are, in fact, Peach and Rosalina, and it would finally end the nearly century-long debate if proven true.

While there are no names explicitly mentioned in the rating itself, longtime fans of the franchise have connected these dots to Rosalina and Peach almost instantly. For nearly 20 years, the theory that Princess Peach and Rosalina are actually sisters has persisted, a concept briefly considered by Nintendo developers during the original 2007 Wii game’s production but never officially showcased in any of the titles.

Evidence from the Big Screen

Back in 2023, when The Super Mario Bros. Movie launched, a small seed was planted in viewers' heads. Princess Peach shared a flashback of her arrival in the Mushroom Kingdom as a baby. Her clothing featured star and moon motifs. This imagery was synonymous with Rosalina and the Lumas. That would make this new revelation a possible tie that aligns the stars and proves that the pair is closer than some of us imagined.

Peach also mentioned that there is a “huge universe with a lot of galaxies”, possibly hinting her origins were cosmic, rather than earthly, as most assumed throughout the franchise.

If the BBFC's description is accurate, the sequel will finally bridge that gap, confirming that Peach and Rosalina were separated as children before one found the Mushroom Kingdom and the other found the Comet Observatory.

While this could all be speculation once again, one can remain hopeful that this is finally the confirmation needed to put the theory to rest.
