Halle Berry will soon be celebrating her 60th birthday — and she's making sure everyone knows how much she's looking forward to it.
In a new conversation with Today’s Jenna Bush Hager and Sheinelle Jones, the Oscar-winning actor opened up about what it means to her to be celebrating six decades of life.
"I feel different than I thought I would feel at 60," she said. "What is 60? What is age anymore? It’s a feeling. I feel stronger, smarter, wiser, more myself, more in control. I am the best version of myself at this time in my life, and I am so glad that I’m still here and healthy."
Elsewhere, she addressed what she’s grateful for after a 35-year career in Hollywood.
"I still get to work in movies and film and do the things that I love, tell stories that matter to me," she explained. "Still raise my children, my family. I’m still alive in it. I haven’t gone off into the sunset. I haven’t fallen off. I’m still here doing it on my own terms.”
Berry’s career saw two major breakthroughs: Spike Lee’s 1991 film Jungle Fever, and the 1992 romantic comedy Boomerang. A decade later, in 2001, she became the first (and still, only) Black woman to win the Oscar for Best Actress for her role in Monster’s Ball.
As she pointed out, she has remained relevant throughout the years. She most recently starred in the crime thriller, Crime 101, alongside Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo, and is gearing up for her next offerings, the drama Fleur and the action thriller Red Card, both of which are still filming.
The actor, who was born Maria Halle Berry in Cleveland, Ohio, will turn 60 on August 14.
