The Child’s Play reboot may have found its leads.
According to Collider report, Aubrey Plaza and Atlanta's Brian Tyree Henry and are in talks to star in the upcoming horror flick directed by Lars Klevberg. Plaza is reportedly in negotiations to play a mother figure, while Henry will likely portray a detective; however, the outlet notes that the latter’s role has not been confirmed.
Child’s Play will be based on a script by Tyler Burton Smith, with It producers David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith handling production. Though it bears the same name as the original 1988 film, the project is expected to put a contemporary twist on the beloved horror classic.
While the original movie and its sequels focused on a Good Guy doll possessed by a serial killer, the reboot will center on a group of kids who are tormented by a murderous “technologically advanced” doll. It’s still unclear if Chucky will appear or if audiences will be introduced to a completely new antagonist.
With production beginning “soon” in Vancouver, we’re sure there will be more details within the upcoming weeks.
Don Mancini, the man behind the original Child’s Play, is not involved with the MGM reboot; however, he is working on an eight-part TV series centered on Chucky. “We want to definitely signal that we are going dark, darker than ever before,” Mancini told Bloody Disgusting back in February. “It’s going to be very creepy.”
