Chucky May Soon Terrorize the Small Screen in 'Child's Play' TV Series

You have to admire Chucky’s staying power. After several years and seven feature films, the murderous doll has managed to retain an incredibly loyal fan base. And now, nearly 30 years after Chucky made his theatrical debut, Child’s Play creator Don Mancini has announced his intention to bring the pint-sized murderer to the small screen.

According to horror-genre website Bloody Disgusting, Mancini revealed he and franchise producer David Kirschner are working on an eight-part, hour-long TV series that will continue the Chucky saga. The show will take on the original Child’s Play title, and Brad Dourif will reprise his role as the voice of Chucky. But, make no mistake: This isn’t a reboot.

Mancini told Bloody Disgusting that the last installment of the Child’s Play franchise, 2017’s Cult of Chucky, intentionally set up the upcoming TV series. And for those who believe the creators will tone down the horror elements, think again.

“We want to definitely signal that we are going dark, darker than ever before,” Mancini said. “It’s going to be very creepy.”

Kirschner also touched on the direction of the series, as well as his longstanding relationship with Mancini.

“I don’t think there’s a relationship that lasted this long,” he said. “I’m incredibly excited about the series and to explore a world in which we’ve never done before.”

As of now, there aren’t many other details about the Child’s Play show, including casting information and which network it will possibly call home.
