Child's Play is not only returning as a TV series from creator Don Mancini, but it's also apparently getting a theatrical reboot.

An update of the 1988 classic centered on a murderous yet well-dressed Good Guy doll is being put together by It producers Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenbeg at MGM. Though plot and cast info details remain unknown, the project—set to begin production in September—has already secured Polaroid director Lars Klevberg and Quantum Break writer Tyler Burton Smith.

Collider's sources say the new film will center on "a group of kids (a la Stranger Things)" and is being built as a "contemporary" revival with a more "technologically advanced" version of the boisterous Chucky doll, which likely means we can expect him to put those tech advancements to use by killing a bunch of people. There's also the possibility that the Chucky name will be ditched entirely in favor of something fresh.

Though original Chucky voice provider Brad Dourif is not expected to appear in the reboot, he is expected to return to the Child's Play universe via the TV series Mancini teased last month. The hourlong show, perBloody Disgusting, will be a continuation of the pre-reboot film franchise spanning eight episodes. "We want to definitely signal that we are going dark, darker than ever before," Mancini said. "It's going to be very creepy." It's unclear if Mancini will also be involved with the theatrical reboot.

Most recently, Chucky chucked it up in Cult of Chucky, the seventh entry in the franchise. The Mancini-directed entry was met with largely positive reviews and is definitely the movie you should watch today whilst consuming drinks of the mind-altering variety.
