Russell Brand is making headlines again—this time for weighing in on his ex-wife Katy Perry’s reported relationship with former Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau, delivering sharp criticism during a recent interview that quickly gained traction online.
Appearing on The Megyn Kelly Show, Brand didn’t hold back when asked about Perry’s personal life. “I’ve put up with a lot with that ex-wife of mine, but you took it too far, KP,” he said, reacting to her connection with Trudeau.
He then pivoted into a broader critique of the politician, making clear his disapproval of Trudeau’s leadership and public persona.
Brand took aim at Trudeau’s political decisions, referencing his handling of Canada’s 2022 trucker protests and accusing him of posturing. “I do not like that Trudeau,” Brand said, adding that he believes certain leaders present a polished image while obscuring deeper power dynamics.
He also mocked Trudeau’s public image, grouping him with other global figures he described as “good-looking and charming” but ultimately questionable in influence.
The comments also included lighter moments, with Brand briefly praising Perry’s former partner Orlando Bloom—jokingly mimicking his Lord of the Rings character—before circling back to criticism of Trudeau.
At one point, after confirming Perry and Trudeau were still linked, Brand quipped, “Keep checking. She could come to her senses any minute.”
Brand and Perry were married from 2010 to 2012, a high-profile relationship that unfolded at the peak of their mainstream fame. Since then, both have moved on personally and professionally, with Brand shifting toward online commentary and Perry continuing her career in music and television.
The latest remarks arrive at a time when Brand is already under intense public scrutiny. He is currently facing multiple charges in the U.K. related to alleged sexual assault and rape, all of which he has denied. He has pleaded not guilty and continues to maintain that his past relationships were consensual.
