A spokesperson for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle is pushing back hard against a new report about their Netflix partnership, calling key claims “categorically false” and disputing suggestions that the streamer was left in the dark about their outside projects.

The response comes after a Variety report alleged that Netflix executives were caught off guard by the couple’s 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey and raised concerns about communication surrounding Archewell’s broader ventures. The Sussexes’ representative directly rejected that narrative, stating that the idea Netflix was unaware of the interview is “categorically false.”

According to Entertainment Weekly, the spokesperson also addressed claims tied to Prince Harry’s memoir Spare, which was released in January 2023. According to the report, Netflix leadership had concerns about how a book rollout might overlap with the couple’s docuseries Harry & Meghan. That characterization was also denied.

The rep said it was “categorically untrue” that the timing was misrepresented, adding that there had been open coordination with Netflix months in advance.

Further clarifying the working relationship, the spokesperson noted that “Netflix and Archewell had legal counsel involved to oversee the evolution of the deal, as is common practice for any deal changes in Hollywood,” reinforcing that communication between both sides followed standard industry protocols.

The claims arrive at a time when the Sussexes’ partnership with Netflix continues to draw attention. The couple signed their production deal in 2020 after stepping back from royal duties and relocating to California.

Their docuseries Harry & Meghan delivered strong early viewership, while subsequent projects — including Meghan’s lifestyle series With Love, Meghan — have generated mixed reports about performance.

Despite that, Netflix leadership has publicly described Archewell as a “thoughtful and collaborative partner.”

The latest dispute also reflects a broader pattern of public corrections issued by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in response to media coverage.

In a separate incident, a spokesperson for the Duchess of Sussex previously addressed false claims broadcast on British television about her mother, Doria Ragland.

Those claims — which alleged Ragland had been incarcerated — were later retracted on air after being repeated without evidence.

Responding to that situation, the spokesperson said: “Broadcasters have a responsibility to inform, not inflame. This lie was conclusively debunked more than two years ago, yet it continues to be recycled by irresponsible commentators, causing recurring harm.”

The statement continued: “Ms. Ragland proudly raised her daughter and has never been in prison. GB News did not apologize voluntarily, but only to escape a defamation lawsuit — and it speaks volumes that GB News removed any trace of that apology within 24 hours of making it.”
