Jennifer Lopez is praising the chemistry she built with Brett Goldstein while promoting their upcoming Netflix romantic comedy, Office Romance.

Speaking during Netflix’s 2026 Upfront presentation in New York, Lopez said her connection with the Ted Lasso star developed naturally during filming. “We had great chemistry to begin with,” Lopez said, per People. “It just grew as we did the film together.”

The movie casts Lopez as powerful CEO Jackie Cruz opposite Goldstein’s Daniel Blanchflower, a newly hired employee who ends up in a workplace romance that threatens both of their careers.

Lopez also admitted she went into the project expecting Goldstein to resemble his famously gruff Ted Lasso character Roy Kent. Instead, she found someone much quieter than anticipated. “I expected more of a rough guy,” she explained, calling Goldstein “kind,” “gentle,” and “very smart.”

Lopez added that Roy Kent remains one of her favorite television characters, which made the contrast even more surprising once production began.

The film marks another major romantic comedy role for Lopez, who has spent decades helping define the modern studio rom-com era through films like Maid in Manhattan, The Wedding Planner, and Marry Me.

Goldstein, meanwhile, has steadily expanded beyond comedy television following the success of Ted Lasso, where he won two Emmy Awards for playing the foul-mouthed AFC Richmond veteran.

Director Ol Parker said the chemistry between Lopez and Goldstein was obvious before the cameras even rolled. According to Parker, the pair spent an early lunch together laughing nonstop, which immediately reassured him that the movie would work.

Goldstein also revealed that he and co-writer Joe Kelly specifically crafted the script with Lopez in mind. “We started asking ourselves who the best rom-com star is,” Goldstein said. “Without hesitation, we both said JLo.”

While Lopez focused on the creative side of the partnership, Goldstein previously joked about the chaos of filming alongside one of the world’s biggest celebrities. He described exterior shoots in Hoboken, New Jersey, as “absolute madness” because of the nonstop paparazzi attention surrounding Lopez. He even joked that if the two ever reunite onscreen, he wants “everything indoors” next time.

The attention surrounding Office Romance has continued building ahead of its June 5 Netflix release, helped by an ensemble cast that also includes Betty Gilpin, Tony Hale, Amy Sedaris, Edward James Olmos, and Bradley Whitford.
