Despite months of rumors, teases, and even an April Fool’s Day hoax, Amazon MGM Studios says no actor has been selected to play the next James Bond.
The studio addressed the growing speculation during its presentation at CinemaCon this week, where executives confirmed that the search for the next 007 is still underway. Speaking to theater owners, Courtenay Valenti said fans should not expect a casting reveal just yet.
“Now, I know you’re all wondering when we’re going to announce who’s playing James Bond,” Valenti said, according to Variety. “Don’t get too excited. Please know that we’re taking the time to do this with care and deep respect.”
She added that the studio views the next Bond film as “a responsibility we don’t take lightly.”
That statement is the clearest sign yet that Amazon MGM is not rushing the process, even as rumors continue to swirl around several actors. In recent months, names such as Callum Turner, Jacob Elordi, and Louis Partridge have all been floated online as possible successors to Daniel Craig.
Earlier this month, social media briefly convinced itself that Jessie Buckley had been cast as a female 007 after a fake April 1 report spread online. That story, later traced back to a satirical article, was quickly debunked.
What Amazon MGM did confirm is the identity of the creative team behind the next installment. Denis Villeneuve, whose recent work on Dune made him one of Hollywood’s most in-demand directors, is set to direct the film.
The screenplay will be written by Steven Knight, best known for creating Peaky Blinders. The project is also being overseen by producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman, with Tanya Lapointe serving as executive producer.
Valenti praised that group during the presentation, saying, “When you pair one of the most beloved franchises in history with a world-class filmmaking team... you’re setting the stage for something that’s truly worthy of the Bond legacy.”
The prolonged wait has created a vacuum filled by online guesses, fan campaigns, and side conversations about what the next Bond era might look and sound like. Former Oasis songwriter Noel Gallagher recently said he would be “absolutely” willing to write the next Bond theme, calling it “an absolute honour.”
His brother, Liam Gallagher, even hinted that an Oasis Bond song could be on the way, though no official approach has been confirmed.
