Months after his death, Eric Dane is still using his voice to push for ALS awareness.
According to Entertainment Weekly, a new public service announcement released by I AM ALS features the late Grey's Anatomy and Euphoria star, alongside a long list of actors, producers, journalists, and advocates, calling for faster ALS research and expanded access to treatment. The campaign debuted during ALS Awareness Month and arrives just three months after Dane’s death at age 53.
“There’s so much more to learn, more to do, and we have to do it now,” Dane says in the video.
The PSA pulls together appearances from several of Dane’s former Grey’s Anatomy collaborators, including Katherine Heigl, Justin Chambers, Chandra Wilson, Caterina Scorsone, and Shonda Rhimes, as well as stars including Sterling K. Brown, John Stamos, Alyssa Milano, and Sharon Stone.
Throughout the campaign, participants repeat the message: “ALS won’t wait, and neither will we.”
The nonprofit also released a companion documentary short, titled Ring Every Bell: Eric Dane’s Final Act with I AM ALS, which follows Dane’s advocacy work during the final stretch of his life. The film documents his partnership with I AM ALS co-founders Brian Wallach and Sandra Abrevaya, as well as his efforts to help secure additional federal funding for ALS research.
Before his death, Dane became one of the most visible celebrity advocates connected to the disease. After publicly announcing his diagnosis in 2025, he continued acting while also traveling to Washington, D.C. with advocacy leaders to support legislation and awareness campaigns tied to ALS treatment and research funding.
“When I went public, I was immediately connected with Brian and Sandra,” Dane says in the documentary. “I was immediately comforted in knowing that this place was going to be a needle-mover.”
ALS — also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease — is a progressive neurological condition that attacks nerve cells controlling voluntary muscle movement. Over time, patients lose the ability to speak, move, swallow, and breathe independently. There is currently no cure.
His public advocacy work has taken on even greater visibility in recent weeks as more public figures have opened up about their own diagnoses. 90 Day Fiancé star Jenny Slatten recently revealed she is battling ALS, while actor A. Russell Andrews, who had a guest appearance on Grey’s Anatomy, also went public with his diagnosis earlier this month.
