The cast of The Devil Wears Prada 2 just got an unexpected addition—and the reveal happened completely by accident.
During the April 8 broadcast of Today, co-anchor Craig Melvin casually let slip that Jenna Bush Hager will appear in the highly anticipated sequel. While discussing the film live on-air, Melvin suddenly blurted out, “By the way, you know how that movie’s going to be good? You know how I can tell? JBH is in it!”
The camera immediately cut to a visibly stunned Bush Hager, whose expression made it clear this was not information cleared for public release. “I don’t know that you were supposed to drop that bomb,” Bush Hager replied, trailing off as the rest of the panel burst into laughter.
The rest of the Today team quickly piled on. Savannah Guthrie joked, “This is live. You cannot tell Craig anything!” while Al Roker added, “It is now!” after Melvin insisted he thought the cameo was already public knowledge.
Melvin, meanwhile, seemed to realize in real time that he had shared something he probably was not supposed to. “Cut it out for the other feeds! Sorry about that JBH,” he said, before later summing up the moment with a sheepish, “My bad!”
Bush Hager’s actual role in The Devil Wears Prada 2 remains under wraps. Earlier this year, Streep and Wintour appeared together on the cover of Vogue’s May issue to promote the film.
The sequel itself reunites Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci nearly 20 years after the original. The new story follows Miranda Priestly as she navigates the collapse of print media while facing off against Emily Charlton, now a major executive in the fashion industry.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 continues to find new ways to get people talking ahead of its May 1 release.
