Michael B. Jordan is set to receive one of the marquee honors at the upcoming Palm Springs International Film Festival.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor will be presented with the festival’s Icon Award during the Film Awards ceremony scheduled for January 3, 2026, at the Palm Springs Convention Center. The entire festival will take place from January 2 to January 13.

Jordan is being recognized for his work in the blockbuster film Sinners, directed and written by longtime collaborator Ryan Coogler. The project marked another reunion between the pair, who had previously worked together on films such as Fruitvale Station, Creed, and Black Panther.

In Sinners, Jordan assumed a dual role, portraying the twin brothers Smoke and Stack. The story followed the brothers as they returned to Clarksdale, Mississippi, with the hope of revitalizing their hometown by opening a juke joint. Their plans are quickly disrupted when a malevolent force begins to take hold, setting the tone for a tense and emotional narrative.

The film’s ensemble included Hailee Steinfeld, Jack O’Connell, Wunmi Mosaku, Jayme Lawson, Miles Caton, Omar Miller, and Delroy Lindo.

Palm Springs International Film Festival chairman Nachhattar Singh Chandi highlighted Jordan’s performance in the project, stating that his ability to differentiate and embody two distinct characters demonstrates “power and nuance.” Chandi added that Jordan’s body of work over the past two decades reinforces why he is being recognized as an icon.

Jordan’s career spans a range of roles across film and television. His previous credits include Creed (2015) and its sequels, Black Panther (2018), Just Mercy (2019), and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022).

In addition to acting, he has also ventured into directing and will next direct and star in MGM’s upcoming reimagining of The Thomas Crown Affair. He is also attached to star in and produce an adaptation of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six, and will appear alongside Will Smith in I Am Legend 2.

The Icon Award has previously been presented to a range of notable figures, including Glenn Close, Willem Dafoe, Michael Douglas, Lady Gaga, Tom Hanks, Paul Giamatti, Robert Duvall, and Meryl Streep. Many past honorees went on to earn Academy Award nominations in the same year.
