The wildly popular Hunter x Hunter anime series has been pulled from Crunchyroll, and subscribers reportedly weren’t cautioned about its impending removal.

The series, which ran from 2011 to 2014, was the second adaptation of Yoshihiro Togashi’s manga of the same name and has often been considered one of the most popular shonen jump anime series. The show has long been available to stream on Crunchyroll, the biggest dedicated-anime streaming platform, but this month the platform pulled the show without explanation in the United States.

The show is still available to stream on Netflix, Hulu, and Tubi, which could indicate that it’s a potential licensing issue with Crunchyroll, which is operated by Sony. Alongside the likes of Dragon Ball Z, Pokémon, Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, and Death Note, among countless others, Hunter x Hunter is a beloved series that helped increase the popularity of anime outside of Japan.

In a since-removed article from 2019, Crunchyroll named Hunter x Hunter as one of the top 25 anime series of the ‘10s, standing alongside DEVILMAN Crybaby, Attack on Titan, and JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, among others.

The news of Hunter x Hunter’s removal comes just as Crunchyroll confirmed its Spring 2026 release schedule. The platform is set to release several new series, including Agents of the Four Seasons: Dance of Spring, SNOWBALL EARTH, and The Warrior Princess and the Barbaric King. Several heavy-hitters will make their long-awaited returns, too, including One Piece, Welcome to Demon-School Iruma-kun!, and That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime.
