A fresh look at the upcoming Ghost in the Shell reboot has arrived, and it’s leaning hard into nostalgia.

Unveiled during AnimeJapan, the first proper trailer for the reimagined series offers a brief but striking preview of what fans can expect when the project premieres this summer. Clocking in at under a minute, the footage doesn’t reveal much about the story, but it makes a strong visual impression.

The new adaptation, produced by Science Saru in collaboration with Production I.G, embraces a distinctly retro aesthetic. From its color palette to its character animation, the trailer channels the look and feel of 1990s anime while still giving a new take on the iconic franchise created by Masamune Shirow.

Character designs by Shuhei Handa stand out immediately, blending a slightly more stylized, almost cartoon-like approach with elements that echo the original manga. The result is a version of Ghost in the Shell that feels both familiar and refreshingly different from past adaptations.

Alongside the trailer, a new key visual was also released, featuring protagonist Motoko Kusanagi positioned atop a Fuchikoma AI tank, further teasing the series’ direction and visual identity.

Details about the story remain limited, and it’s still unclear whether the series will closely follow the original manga or take a more reimagined approach, similar to recent anime revivals.

The new Ghost in the Shell is slated to debut in July, with more information expected in the lead-up to its release.
