Ayo Edebiri is booked and busy with several upcoming movies and films. But for the screenwriter and actress, all roads lead back to The Bear — the show that broke her out and made her an undeniable star.

On The Bear, Edebiri plays Sydney Adamu, the sous chef to Jeremy Allen White’s Carmen Berzatto at the titular restaurant. Throughout the Emmy-winning series, many of the scenes can be intense, as they depict the day-to-day of working in a restaurant — the planning, the dinner rushes, and of course, the internal arguments. While this may take a toll on actors’ mental health, Edebiri manages to stay grounded. In an interview published in Vogue on Wednesday, October 8, Edebiri revealed how she maintains her gratitude amid challenging moments.

“I do try to journal a lot, and not let anything overshadow the other, good or bad,” Edebiri said. “When I was in school, I took these Feldenkrais classes. It’s a lot about body awareness, but a huge thing is, How do you have awareness without judgment? So I feel like that’s also this moment—where I’m like, ‘How do I have presence and awareness, but also just allow this experience to be what it is and enjoy it?’”

This most recent season of The Bear contained an episode written by Edebiri as well as her co-star, Lionel Boyce.

In addition to The Bear, Edebiri starred in Opus, in which she plays a journalist profiling a pop star who she discovers is running a cult. Later this month, she will star in Luca Guadagnino’s After the Hunt alongside Andrew Garfield and Julia Roberts. After the Hunt will open in Los Angeles and New York City theaters this Friday, October 10, and nationwide on October 17.

The Bear is also set to return for a fifth season next year.
