Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas of TLC is responding to accusations that she shared a conspiracy video about Michelle Obama and made donations to support President Donald Trump in 2024.
On Saturday (March 28), the singer shared a two-minute video on social media, first addressing the debunked conspiracy video she shared about Obama allegedly registering to vote as a man in 1994.
“I have the utmost respect and adoration for Michelle Obama and I would never say anything that is disrespectful to her or any woman,” Chilli said. “I had no clue that this repost had happened until I started to get phone calls and text messages from everybody, and I immediately went to my page to see what was going on.
“Mind you, I’m not very computer savvy, so I’m looking for this repost button,” the 55-year-old added. “I see all of these buttons are very close to each other. I was scrolling, and my thumb hit the repost button.”
Chilli reiterated that the repost was an accident.
“I had no clue that something like this happened until I got all of the calls,” she said. “Of course, I took that down. I would never post anything like that. That’s not my character. I have supported the Obamas. I gave to the campaign for both runs. I voted twice for him and supported the organization that Michelle had in the schools for exercise for the kids.”
The singer then brought up records of donations that she has given the Trump administration.
“These are the things that support the veterans,” she claimed. “I’ve always supported them, not just now, for years. This is not something new.”
According to the Federal Election Commission’s website, in 2024, Chilli donated $210.60 to a payment processor called WinRed that’s used for Republican campaign donations. She also donated $340.60 and $486.54 to the Trump National Committee JFC and Never Surrender Inc., respectively.
In an Instagram post, Chilli again stated that she does not support Trump or his administration’s policies.
“I WANT TO BE CLEAR: I am not MAGA and do not support any of the policies that are causing great harm to the American people,” she wrote. “I made a mistake too many make: I did not read the fine print. I thought I was supporting causes against human trafficking and for veterans.”
Chilli previously experienced backlash in 2017 when she stated “all lives matter” after being asked about the Black Lives Matter movement.
“I personally didn't go to any marches or anything like that. For me, all lives matter, you know what I mean?” Thomas told UK’s Channel 4 News at the time.
