Former Turnstile guitarist Brady Ebert has been indicted on a new charge of attempted first-degree murder in Maryland.
As seen in Montgomery County online court records, Ebert was hit with a criminal indictment on Thursday (April 30) in which the new charge was revealed. The 33-year-old is also facing charges including attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, and second-degree assault.
The charges stem from an incident in March of this year in which Ebert was accused of having “struck the victim with his 2001 Buick before leaving the scene.” The alleged victim, who was not immediately identified in a news release from local authorities, was treated for “serious injuries” at a nearby hospital. Ebert, meanwhile, was arrested. It was later revealed that the alleged victim was William Yates, father to Brendan Yates, Turnstile’s lead singer.
As reported by The Baltimore Banner on Friday (May 1), Ebert, whose exit from the Grammy-winning band was confirmed in 2022, has argued that he acted in self-defense. According to state law, Ebert’s first-degree attempted murder charge means he is now facing the possibility of a life sentence.

In a statement released amid initial coverage of Ebert’s arrest, Turnstile, set to appear at multiple festivals this year including Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza, said their decision to “cut ties” with Ebert in 2022 was due to “a consistent pattern of harmful behavior affecting himself, the band, and the community.”
According to the band, Ebert “began threatening violence” at one point, with the threats allegedly escalating in recent months.
“This past week, that violence led to a physical attack when Brady went to the house of Brendan’s parents and used his vehicle to run over Brendan’s father, causing severe physical trauma,” the statement added. “We are grateful that Mr. Yates survived, has successfully undergone surgery, and we’re hoping for the best possible outcome in his recovery.”
At this year’s Coachella, Brendan’s father appeared via video to introduce the band’s performance.
