DJ Akademiks Argues Drake's First 3 Albums Are 'Valued More' Than Jay-Z's Entire Catalog

Akademiks makes a very Akademiks argument following HOV's Roots Picnic freestyle.

DJ Akademiks, as expected, has more to say about Drake and Jay-Z following the latter’s explosive Roots Picnic freestyle.

On social media, the streaming personality inspired a wave of pushback after arguing that Drake’s first three albums “are valued more than” Jay-Z’s catalog as a whole.

“It hurting their feelings when I pointed out jay z can’t talk catalog or contract talk to Drake since he ain’t ever been in position of this much leverage as Drake!” Ak wrote in an X post on Wednesday (June 3). “Drake first 3 albums are valued more than Jay-Z entire discography. The numbers say that not me!”

This, of course, is a bizarre statement to make for more than one reason, though not surprising given the source. Commenters were quick to start poking holes in Ak’s argument, though he later appeared to double down with another post about “the numbers.”

Ak’s remarks come after Jay-Z pretty clearly referenced Drake in his much-discussed Roots Picnic freestyle, which itself came after the 6 god sent some indirect bars in HOV’s direction on Iceman. Toward the end of the freestyle, which we previously broke down here, HOV prodded at an unspecified competitor, presumably Drake, about consulting the “wrong chart.” He also rapped of record contracts that effectively make artists mere “workers,” marking another widely speculated dig at Drake.

With his triad release strategy, including the long-teased Iceman and two other new albums, Drake did indeed manage to break some key charts records, including ones previously held by HOV and the late Michael Jackson.
