Cardi B has seemingly addressed the rampant social media speculation surrounding the death of Ashly Robinson, an influencer better known under her Ashlee Jenae moniker.
For those unfamiliar, a statement shared to Instagram this weekend and attributed to Robinson’s family said that the 31-year-old had recently gotten engaged “during a safari” amid a trip to Zanzibar.
“She and her fiancé, Joe McCann, were staying in a luxury villa at the Zuri Zanzibar, continuing what we believed was her dream trip. But just days later, that dream turned into our family's worst nightmare,” reads the statement attributed to the family. “Ashly was found unconscious in her villa and was rushed to a local hospital, where her death was confirmed hours later. Nothing about this loss feels real.”
The statement went on to highlight the “unanswered questions” surrounding Robinson’s death, as well as encouraged those following the case to treat “any information not directly provided by our family” as “unverified and not considered factual.”
In subsequent reports, it’s been stated that the death was a possible suicide, though many on social media, as well as the family themselves, have questioned this. Cardi appeared to address this speculation in a post shared to her X account on Monday (April 13), writing, “That girl did not off herself!!!!”
Cardi did not immediately elaborate further, nor did she directly name Robinson. However, the widely held assumption is that she was addressing the influencer’s case, which recently led to her family being interviewed by WPVI in Philadelphia.
According to Yolanda Denise Endres, Robinson’s mother, she received a call from her daughter on April 8 during which she was told that an argument had ensued between her and McCann, at which point they were moved into separate rooms at the resort. Per Endres, this was followed by a call from McCann, who informed her that Ashly had “[done] something to herself” and was being transported to a hospital.
Later, the resort is said to have told the family that their daughter had died. In the same WPVI interview, an alleged medical report from an area hospital is cited in which “an unidentified mark around the neck” was mentioned, as was a claim from the fiancé that he had discovered Robinson after “she hanged herself on the door.” Another hospital, according to the report, said that the death was due to cerebral hypoxia by strangulation and suffocation.
“She’s never done anything that would ever, ever lead me to believe that she would do something to harm herself,” Endres added.
