Brandy Speaks Out About Shyne's Dating Claims, Says They Merely Had 'Platonic Friendship'

Brandy says her and Shyne’s past friendship is “being mischaracterized.”

Brandy cites Shyne’s claims of having dated her as an example of “people telling their version of my story,” adding that her upcoming book was written with the intention to “debunk many of the misnomers” associated with her life.

As you’ve likely seen, Shyne, a Bad Boy Records alum who later became a politician, has indeed made public claims that he and the “Have You Ever?” artist once dated. For example, the topic was broached during Shyne’s recent appearance on the It Is What It Is podcast, though this didn’t mark his first time boosting such claims.

“In the late 90s, I had a platonic friendship with rapper Shyne,” Brandy said in a post shared to Instagram on Wednesday (March 18). “In an unfortunate turn of events, that friendship is now being mischaracterized as ‘we dated.’ Unequivocally, we did not! I’m not sure why an untrue narrative about a scope of what was a friendship more than 20 years ago is being reshaped during his current media interviews.”

The Grammy winner went on to note that she “rarely” makes public statements of this variety, as well as distanced herself from remarks her brother, Ray J, has made in response to the Shyne claims.

“But when I do decide to standup for myself, I handle things on my own,” Brandy added. “While I love my brother Ray J, I don’t condone or support the messages he’s shared on social media and have not asked him to defend me in any form.”

“Keep my sister's name out of your mouth, and if not, I'm gonna slap the fucking daylights out of you when I see you,” Ray J said in a video shared to social media earlier this week.

In the video, seen here, Ray J directly named Shyne, plus It Is What It Is co-hosts Cam’ron and Mase.
