Rick Ross is pulling back the curtain on some of the most harrowing moments of his life in his writing, revealing that seizures caused by drug use and health complications played a major role in reshaping his outlook.

Per TMZ, in his upcoming book Renaissance of a Boss: Notes From a Creative Reawakening, Ross reflects on a 2022 incident in which he suffered a seizure while aboard a plane, forcing an emergency landing so he could receive medical attention.

In the book, the rapper recounts being in the middle of a psychedelic experience after taking mushrooms when the episode occurred, admitting he was far from physically or mentally grounded at the time.

Ross also recalls watching Will Smith’s film Emancipation during the flight but stresses that the movie itself had nothing to do with what happened.

The story adds to a long and troubling history with seizures that Ross has been increasingly open about in his memoirs. In his earlier book Hurricanes: A Memoir, Ross detailed a near-death experience in 2018 that left fans deeply concerned for his health.

That year, the Miami rapper was found unresponsive in his home, suffering from a severe seizure that caused foaming at the mouth and labored breathing.

In Hurricanes, Ross explains that excessive codeine use had already been linked to his seizures, but he later admitted that alcohol and other substances were also factors during his most dangerous episode. He described waking up disoriented after the seizure and initially refusing medical help, even after friends tried to call an ambulance.

According to Ross, it wasn’t until he began coughing up blood in the shower that he finally agreed to seek professional treatment.

The rapper did not shy away from the humiliation and fear surrounding the incident, recounting that the seizure was so intense he lost control of his body while in bed with a woman. He described the woman alerting others in the house after realizing he had soiled himself and was foaming at the mouth, details Ross included to emphasize just how close he came to dying.

Together, the seizure stories from Hurricanes and Renaissance of a Boss paint a clearer picture of how Ross’ health scares have influenced his evolution both personally and creatively. Now nearing his 50s, Ross frames these moments as wake-up calls that forced him to confront excess, ego, and mortality.

Set to be released in May 2026, Renaissance of a Boss builds on that reflection, chronicling Ross’ journey out of a creative rut through travel, introspection, and spiritual exploration.
