Offset is pushing back against a lawsuit stemming from an alleged altercation at a Los Angeles cannabis dispensary, arguing that he was not at fault and that a security guard initiated the confrontation.
In an answer to the charges filed last Friday (Apr. 24) and viewed by Complex, the former Migos member rejected accusations that he assaulted a security guard named Jim Leobardo Sanchez during a visit to a MedMen location near LAX last year. Instead, Offset’s filing points to the guard’s behavior as the reason tensions escalated.
The filing says that Sanchez should not be entitled to damages from Offset because “[a]t least some of the acts complained of by [Sanchez] were provoked by his wrongful conduct.” It goes on to say that “[Sanchez] was at fault in how he conducted himself” during the alleged confrontation.
The case was originally brought by Sanchez, a security guard who claims he was injured during the encounter and that he has continued to deal with physical issues since. He is seeking damages, alleging that Offset and others in his group attacked him after he asked the rapper for identification.
Offset’s attorneys are asking the court to dismiss the claims, and for the rapper to be awarded court costs.
The dispute stems from a March 2025 incident that has drawn legal attention beyond the civil case. Offset is also facing a misdemeanor charge related to the situation. He entered a not-guilty plea earlier this year and the case is ongoing, with a hearing scheduled for Wednesday (Apr. 29).
