Method Man Says Destiny's Child Sent Him Flowers After His Apology for 2004 Awards Show Snub

Meth revisited the story, explaining how a tense moment with Destiny’s Child ended almost 20 years later with an unexpected gesture of forgiveness.

Method Man says one of the most humbling moments of his career ended with an unexpected and surprisingly sweet gesture from Destiny's Child and Tina Knowles.

During a recent appearance on My Expert Opinion, the Wu-Tang legend revisited a tense incident from the early 2000s involving Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams. He revealed that after he publicly apologized in 2022 — on an earlier episode of My Expert Opinion, as it happens — the group quietly accepted it by sending him flowers.

Meth's update, which you can view above, came as he was discussing his new film, Relationship Goals, with Kelly Rowland. MEO host Math Hoffa asked if Meth's apology to the group had anything to do with his being cast along Rowland.

Spoiler: It didn't. According to Method Man, Kelly had no memory of the uncomfortable run-in.

"She ain't fucking remember. She ain't remember," Meth said. "And she had never seen [my apology]. But Michelle played it… I didn't bring it up. She brought it up to me."

Method Man explained that his 2022 apology circulated far and wide, eventually reaching Beyoncé's mother, Tina Knowles.

"After that, I remember Miss Tina Knowles had made a comment about it [on Instagram]," he said.

"I forgot what the comment was. I can't give it verbatim, but basically saying how it takes a real man to stand up… to call himself out on their faults."

Then came the part that caught even him off guard.

"After that, about two weeks later, maybe a week later, I got flowers sent to my house," Meth said. "And it was signed Beyoncé, Kelly, and Michelle."

The incident Meth apologized for occurred when he crossed paths with Destiny's Child at the MOBO Awards in September, 2004, during a period he describes as being consumed by insecurity and emotional turmoil. Reflecting on that era during his appearance on Hoffa's show, Meth described himself as someone operating from pain.

"I didn't like myself, so I didn't like anybody fucking else," he said, admitting he often took his frustrations out on those around him, including people in his Def Jam orbit who "did not deserve it."

Meth recalled meeting Destiny's Child several years prior to the 2004 awards ceremony, when the group was still four members, and remembered them being "very nice" and respectful.

But when he tried to greet them later at the MOBO Awards, he thought they intentionally ignored him. He realized in retrospect that they likely never heard him in the loud venue. But in the moment, Meth reacted terribly.

He later described refusing to shake hands and dismissing them with an insult, only to realize years later how unfair it was.

"Neither Kelly, Beyoncé, or Michelle ever did any-fucking-thing to me," he said.
