Lizzo appears to be leaning into the controversy surrounding her new music.
The Grammy-winning singer and rapper reposted a tweet from Nicki Minaj dissing her while simultaneously sharing an alternate version of her song "Bitch."
In the post, Nicki appeared to take aim at Lizzo's recent weight loss, music career, and ongoing legal issues writing, "Fat Lizzo lost 300 lbs just to sell 300 albums. So now she has loose skin AND a flop album, AND a weird charge. Sheesh."
Lizzo reposted the tweet and captioned it with a brief message: "Since I'm blocked…"
The post also arrived with an alternate version of "Bitch," a song off her new album that finds her addressing Nicki and the legal challenges that have followed her in recent years.
On the song, Lizzo raps, "Used to be the biggest fan, and I lost weight / Wait, wait. Let me fixate."
Elsewhere in the track, Lizzo appears to call for unity among women in the industry while criticizing outside forces that benefit from division.
"I'm praying for my sisters / Wanna see it's all in our bag, while we tussling," she says before adding, "They do win it so well that I couldn't even be mad."
The song also touches on the legal controversies that have surrounded the artist in recent years. Lizzo suggests she hopes to eventually clear her name and reveal what she believes is the truth behind the allegations. In August 2023, Lizzo was hit with a lawsuit from three of her former dancers who accused her of sexual harassment, creating a hostile work environment, and weight-shaming.
"I fantasize about the trial and exposing the lies / Then everyone will see that they was plotting on my demise," she raps on the song.
However, she also acknowledges that even a favorable outcome may not completely erase the damage to her public image.
"But even if that ever happens, bitch, the damage is done," the song continues.
