TMZ Hip Hop caught up with Erykah Badu after the Fashion Trust U.S 2026 Awards in Los Angeles on Tuesday, but the conversation came to an abrupt end when the artist formerly known as Kanye West was mentioned.
The interaction started off well. Badu said she was feeling “great,” and called the ceremony “beautiful.” However, things took a turn when she was asked to give her thoughts about Ye’s two-night stint at SoFi Stadium last week.
“Uh, no,” Badu flatly responded to the request before walking away.
Badu posted a video of herself rapping along to “Can’t Tell Me Nothing” with her daughter Puma Curry sitting next to her side.
Badu also praised the set design by Aus Taylor, which you can find out more about here, and thanked Ye’s wife Bianca Censori for the invite. The iconic singer also shared a video of Lauryn Hill’s appearance on night two, which she summed up as “phenomenal.”
Considering how complimentary Badu was about Ye’s show on Instagram, it comes as a surprise that she would decline to comment when asked by TMZ Hip Hop.
Ye was set to headline the Wireless Festival in the UK later this year, but the event has been canceled after the controversial artist was blocked from traveling to the country.
“The Home Office has withdrawn Ye's ETA, denying him entry into the United Kingdom. As a result, Wireless Festival is cancelled and refunds will be issued to all ticket holders,” representatives for the festival confirmed in a statement to Complex. “As with every Wireless Festival, multiple stakeholders were consulted in advance of booking Ye and no concerns were highlighted at the time.”
