Lil Nas X Accepts Court-Approved Mental Health Treatment After Felony Battery Charges

The 2-time Grammy winner will attend the program in lieu of serving jail time.

Lil Nas X has been ordered to attend a mental health diversion program eight months after being arrested on charges of felony battery.

According to Rolling Stone, on Monday (April 6), the “Industry Baby” artist appeared in a Van Nuys courthouse where a judge ruled for him to attend a mental health program. Following the court-appointed treatment, Lil Nas X, born Montero Hill, may have his case dismissed. The judge also revealed that the artist had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

While speaking to reporters outside the courthouse, Lil Nas X shared that he was “thankful” for the judge’s decision and called his attorney, Christy O'Connor, “the best.” The 26-year-old added that he’s “going through the flow of life” and said, “I’m here, baby” when asked about his treatment.

Last August, Lil Nas X was booked after walking Ventura Blvd. while naked at 4 a.m. Those driving by recorded the 2-time Grammy winner, who threatened to toss one driver’s phone. Lil Nas X was said to have charged at police officers upon their arrival before being sent to an area hospital and later placed under arrest at Van Nuys' Valley Jail. The rapper-singer was charged with three counts of battery with injury towards and officer and one count of resisting arrest.

In the months since his arrest, Lil Nas X told court reporters about his excitement to reconnect with fans, while his legal team also expressed that the musician was confident in receiving a “positive resolution” in the case. Last September, Lil Nas X’s lawyer Drew Findling confirmed that his client had entered treatment to address unspecified “issues.”

“He’s had a great life. He’ll continue to have a great life,” Findling said at the time. “This is a bump that he’s gonna get over, and on behalf of him, his family is making sure that he addresses all those issues right now.”
