Kehlani has revealed that she sought treatment last year after being diagnosed with "multiple mental illnesses."

On Thursday (November 20), the "Folded" singer stopped by Big Boy's Neighborhood, where she detailed undergoing mental health treatment and how she's balanced it with her music career.

"Last year, I was very gratefully diagnosed with multiple mental illnesses that I then got the help for and I've been in treatment for a year that allowed me to get the right medication combination, the right therapy combination, the right daily practices and really shifting my entire life around to navigate that," Kehlani said (around the 22-minute mark in the video below).

"So, a lot of the things that would have really rocked me before don't really rock me the same way," she explained, while admitting that all situations that impact her deeply are "triggering."

"It's kind of like it hits these certain parts of my diagnosis that if someone wasn't famous they would be incredibly triggered by and now I'm I receive it at such a mass level, and I think beyond that, it's like people will hold you to a part of your life that stuck out to them," she said. "And they don't get to experience you to know how you've grown or where you've changed."

Kehlani added that "a whole lot can happen in a year." "A lot can happen post-medication, post getting the right regimen and all the therapies and all the treatments," she continued.

The artist has now learned that she doesn't have to rush to "clarify" herself, especially as her statements become misconstrued and can cause "a whole new problem online."

"Now I'm in this thing where I'm like, 'People are just going to talk, Kehlani,' and I just have to quiet the noise and I just need to take a step back. And it's like, let me talk to my therapist. Let me talk to my best friend. Let me talk to the people around me. Let me talk to God. And let me just focus on that being where I receive the mirror that I'm looking for and that reflection that I'm looking for because the mirror is not the public."

One of Kehlani's personal matters that escalated online last year involved Javaughn Young-White, the father of her six-year-old daughter, Adeya, who launched a custody battle against the singer. At the time, Young-White claimed that his name was not on their daughter's birth certificate and expressed concerns about a religious group that Kehlani was formerly involved with.

The singer would respond by saying that the allegations made about her were "incredibly hurtful, inaccurate, inappropriate, and simply untrue."

"I wanted to take time to ensure that I responded to these accusations from a calm and considered space rather than a reactive one," Kehlani stated. "I strongly deny any claims I have put my child in harm's way, or left my child alone with anyone deemed dangerous or unsafe."
