One of the year’s biggest songs is getting some major updates. Following much demand from fans, Kehlani will share a remix pack to accompany her hit single, “Folded.”
Kehlani dropped “Folded” back in June, and the song has since become a viral hit. A slow burn on the charts, “Folded” has reached No. 1 on Billboard’s US Rhythmic chart and No. 18 on the Hot 100. As the song continues to gain momentum, other artists are putting their spin on it — a la Drake’s “Marvin’s Room” circa 2011. With the upcoming remix pack, these viral covers will finally be available on streaming platforms.
The remix pack will feature a line-up of R&B heavyweights covering “Folded,” including Toni Braxton, Brandy, Jojo, Mario, Ne-Yo, and Tank.
Many of the artists have already shared snippets of their covers to social media, including Braxton, who revealed her rendition of “Folded” on her 58th birthday Tuesday, October 7.
That same day, Tank shared a snippet of his version, which takes on a slower tempo than that of the original.
Back in September, Brandy shared her cover of the song amid rehearsals for her ongoing The Boy is Mine Tour with Monica. After hearing Brandy’s cover, Kehlani took to Instagram to express her joy over Brandy’s take.
“This is the reason i know how to use my voice,” Kehlani wrote. “this is still who i study, who i reference, who i consider to be my absolute #1. when she reached out saying she just wanted to play with Folded… i think i sat there for like 10 minutes speechless.”
As the song has been rising on the charts since the summer, Kehlani has been using this moment to give back to various communities. In August, she helped provide free laundry services to single mothers at various laundromats across the country.
Fans can look forward to streaming the “Folded” remix pack in full on Friday, Oct. 24.
