Joy Oladokun is set to make her Grand Ole Opry debut this December, and she received the news from a country-rock icon.
In a video shared to her Instagram page on Monday, October 20, Oladokun is seen opening a message on her phone. It appears her team is anticipating some good news, as someone in the background can be heard telling her “I’m recording you right now to get a raw reaction.”
Oladokun then plays a video message from Sheryl Crow — who appeared at the iconic Nashville venue earlier this month to introduce Sabrina Carpenter ahead of her big debut.
“Hey Joy, I am sitting here at the Grand Ole Opry,” said Crow in the video. “And I don’t know, I was just wondering if maybe you would wanna do like your debut here, December 2.”
Oladokun is visibly excited over the news, smiling and laughing with joy.
“Congratulations,” Crow continued. “You’re going to be playing here December 2, and I’m going to be in the audience.”
Oladokun is nearly brought to tears over the news, but soon after, she responded, saying “I’m so excited. I would love that.”
The screen then cuts to a poster revealing that Oladokun will make her Grand Ole Opry debut on Tuesday, Dec. 2.
In the post’s caption, she continued to sing Crow’s praises, writing that the “Soak Up the Sun” hitmaker “has been the most consistent voice of support and encouragement throughout my career.”
Upon the announcement, Oladokun received much support in the post’s comments from other country artists, including Mickey Guyton, Brittney Spencer, and Fancy Hagood.
Oladokun will perform alongside Wyatt Flores, as well as other artists to be revealed soon. The show will kick off at 7 p.m. Tickets for the performance are available for purchase here.
