DJ Akademiks believes that Jay-Z’s Roots Picnic freestyle wasn’t enough to get the attention of his rap rivals.
Midway through his headlining set at last weekend's festival, the Roc Nation head honcho subliminally threw shots at Drake, Nicki Minaj, Dame Dash, and even had some leftover smoke for his former collaborator, singer Jaguar Wright.
For now, former State Property rapper Oschino and Dash have been the only people to respond to the freestyle, the latter of whom claimed he couldn’t hear the lyrics due to being distracted by Jay-Z’s afro.
But in a recent livestream, Akademiks theorized that the rest of Hov's targets weren’t swayed by the freestyle.
"You see, Jay-Z's move was a freestyle. He needs another move to validate his next move," Akademiks speculated. "They all look at his move as not worthy enough, and they're painted dust."
Akademiks went on to claim that Jay-Z is being looked at as "rambling" along with "not getting the best response." People are like, 'Oh, okay, it's not bad. Well, you know, he had to get his shit off.' But nothing is like, 'Oh, my God, this changes shit,'" he continued.
Ak shared that he believes the 25-time Grammy winner is in a "time crunch" and claimed that Drizzy doesn't "give a fuck like that." "Jay was hinging on it being such a dynamite that everybody had to respond," Ak said.
The media personality went on to add that because Jay hasn't received a response from Ye, Minaj, Drake, Tory Lanez and others, he looks like a "dog barking at the moon."
"And when you have presented yourself as like this powerful person, when there is inaction to you talking and nothing is moving, other than a few people like, 'Oh, that's dope,' people start questioning if your power or your voice hits the same," Ak continued.
Ak also speculated that the 4:44 artist sought an "unhinged" response from Minaj, who's gone on X diatribes about him. "Perhaps your voice just isn't the thing that moves the needle [anymore]," Ak suggested.
The rap pundit previously argued that Drake’s catalog has greater value than Jay’s "entire catalog."
