A controversial skywriting message at Coachella believed to be related to D4vd may instead be PR for an upcoming Netflix film.
On Friday (April 17), the message “Celeste is a liar” appeared in the sky, just one day after the alternative pop-rock vocalist was arrested in connection to the murder of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez. The late teen was found deceased and decomposing in the trunk of a Tesla registered to D4vd last September.
The vehicle was abandoned and impounded at a lot in Hollywood. At the time the discovery was made, D4vd was on tour, which was promptly canceled.
On Friday (April 16), D4vd, real name David Anthony Burke, was arrested at the home he was staying in, formerly owned by actress Sandra Bullock. The 21-year-old artist is being held without bail.
Palm Springs-area newspaper The Desert Sun shared a possible answer to the mystery on their Instagram account. The paper said that the “Celeste is a liar” skywriting “could be related to the marketing of” the new Netflix movie Roomates, which released on Friday (Apr. 17). Roommates stars Sadie Sandler, the eldest daughter of actor-comedian Adam Sandler, Chloe East, Sarah Sherman, Nick Kroll and more. East plays the character Celeste. Complex has reached out to Netflix for more information, but the company did not immediately respond.
As the movie’s description states, Roommates is about two college dorm mates Devon (Sandler) and Celeste (East), who struggle to live together after initially developing a fast friendship.
“Soon, both girls become unrecognizable in a war of passive aggression, and their once sweet bond devolves into vengeful chaos,” reads Netflix’s Tudum article.
Legal representatives for Dv4d have denied that their client is guilty of murder and insisted that they will “vigorously defend David’s innocence” as the case proceeds.
