Cardi B Says She's 'Very Proud' of Her Album Sales, Addresses 'Flop' Digs

The Grammy winner said that people on the "sidelines" have tried to "discourage" her about the response to her sophomore LP.

Flop allegations haven't gotten to Cardi B.

Last month, the rapper made her long-awaited comeback with her sophomore album Am I the Drama?, which moved 200,000 album-equivalent units in its first week, topping the Billboard 200. But the album's digital sales sparked allegations of her gaming the system, thanks to its $4.99 promotional price, along with Cardi's older singles, "WAP" and "Up," counting towards the album's platinum RIAA certification.

Cardi addressed the "flop era" criticism in a new interview with Paper Magazine, which was published on Tuesday (October 14). The Grammy winner said that she was "proud" of herself despite "drama with the numbers" of her latest album.

"First of all, I'm very proud of my number. Very proud of my number. We're in a very different era when it comes to music," she told the publication. "So not only am I proud of my numbers, but you got bitches from the sideline that are going to try to make you not feel proud of your numbers."

"There's people that have never even seen 100,000 sales calling me a flop. So people will try to discourage you about your numbers, but clearly, they don't discourage me. That's what people will try to do, but it fails," she continued.

The "Safe" artist added that the discouragement "fails" when thousands of people post videos and memes that include her songs. Plus, even some haters are changing their minds, she continued.

"There's so many people that was doubting my album, that is like, 'You know what, her album is good?'" she said.

Among the efforts that drove Am I the Drama? up the charts was Cardi's creative marketing strategy, including both comic videos and hosting meet and greets at record stores nationwide, all while she's pregnant with her fourth child.

ComplexCon returns to Las Vegas on October 25–26, 2025, with over 300 brands and live performances by Young Thug, YEAT & Friends, Peso Pluma, Central Cee, Ken Carson, and more. Get your tickets now.
