SZA gushed over BTS at the American Music Awards.
On Monday, in Las Vegas, BTS surprised fans by presenting the award for best female R&B artist. SZA ultimately won, with all seven members of BTS saying her name in unison. Jimin handed the SOS singer her award before hugging her.
During her acceptance speech, SZA gave a shout-out to the K-pop group, expressing her excitement to meet them.
“It's so nice to meet you, formally, in person,” she said. “And it's crazy that this is the moment, so I had to take this moment to just let this be the moment.” She went on to thank her team, label, and her fans.
BTS also took home several awards at the AMAs, winning all three for which they were nominated: artist of the year, best male K-pop artist, and song of the summer for “Swim,” the lead single from their new album Arirang.
The group released Arirang in March, which went on to debut at No. 1 in over 25 countries. In the US, the album became BTS’s seventh album to open atop the Billboard 200 chart. All songs from the project, except “No. 29,” charted on the Billboard Hot 100, with “Swim” debuting at No. 1.
