Swae Lee is clearing up some confusion surrounding his politics.

The Rae Sremmurd rapper joined The Way Up with Angela Yee, where he shared that he doesn’t align with politics, specifically the Trump-loving subset. The chatter surrounding his political affiliation began after he recently retracted previous comments he made about Kamala Harris and revealed that he didn’t vote in the last US presidential election.

“They can't crucify you for having an opinion,” Lee said at around the 23:10 minute mark. “Everybody got their opinion. You can disagree. It's cool to disagree. And my eyes can be open just like anybody else's.”

Yee then pointed out that the discourse must be particularly difficult to deal with since Lee is in the middle of promoting his new album, Same Difference.

He admitted that it “can be” tough, but that “a small crowd” is critical of him, though he said “some” of those people are his fans.

“So you're not MAGA?” Yee asked.

“Yeah,” he said, agreeing that he isn’t. “I seen that's where they jump to an assumption. … I get why they mad, but then they took it the next level. ‘Oh, you MAGA.’ … I turned down money from MAGA. That's what they don't know. MAGA was trying to get me to campaign and do all that shit. ‘Come out, Swae, perform,’ after the tweet. They assumed that I was MAGA too.”

Swae added, “I like certain things from both sides, and I dislike certain things from both sides.”

The conversation about his politics surfaced in July 2024, when Lee urged his followers not to vote for Harris. “Do not vote for Kamala!!! Do your research on that whole camp,” he tweeted.

Fans didn’t take kindly to Lee’s suggestion, which he recently addressed on The Breakfast Club. “At the time I disagreed with her, but I definitely will retract that statement,” he said.

When he was asked why he had tweeted about Harris that way, he said he was “just seeing some shit” that rubbed him the wrong way: “I started doing my own research and just looking at actual policies.”

He also confessed to not voting in the 2024 presidential election and commented on the current political landscape. “What’s going on now is fucked up,” Lee said, before referencing Trump. “That’s why I never even stood with bro either.”

Following his remarks on The Breakfast Club, one X user deemed Lee to be a “coward ass bitch,” and shared a screenshot of a purported tweet from Lee, where he showed his support for Donald Trump.

“You better go look at the things trump did for blacks he’s actually done more than Biden and 80% of others the media portrays it one way the facts are right there to access I will make a list tomorrow if you need…I used to not pay attention but that last sleepy guy did damage,” Swae appeared to write in 2024, around the time he encouraged followers not to vote for Kamala.
