Mike WiLL Made-It Still Mad at French Montana for "Unforgettable" Drama: 'Bro Ain't Even Reach Out'

The producer says the way French Montana joined the record “pissed me off," as new details about the song’s business side continue to surface.

Mike WiLL Made-It still has some unresolved feelings about how one of the biggest hits of the 2010s took shape.

During a recent interview with Bag Fuel, the hit-making producer opened up about how French Montana ended up on "Unforgettable," a record originally built around Swae Lee. While the song ultimately became a global smash, Mike WiLL Made-It made it clear that the way it came together didn't sit right with him.

"It wasn't even Swae calling me… it was really like me just seeing it on the internet, leaked," he said, recalling how he first discovered French's version. "It really pissed me off."

At the time, he says, the record wasn't intended to be a French Montana release. According to Mike WiLL, the track was being developed internally, with no plans to shop it out or attach another artist. Instead, the situation unfolded without what he felt was proper communication. Despite having a prior relationship with French, Mike WiLL claimed there was no heads-up before the record surfaced publicly with a new verse attached.

"The fact that bro ain't reach out to me… it was no conversation," he said. "It was just like, 'Oh my God, this shit is hot, I'm going to put my verse on here and leak it.'"

He added, "It's almost like… you just bought this new jewelry… and then boom, you pull up and I'm outside with that shit on."

Even though "Unforgettable" went on to become one of French Montana's biggest records, peaking near the top of the charts and earning multi-platinum status, Mike WiLL framed the issue as being about more than commercial success.

"It ain't about money… I'm a businessman and I'm a man," he said. "Out of respect… you can have that conversation with me if you're going to do it."

He also pointed to the business implications, noting the record could have remained within his own label ecosystem rather than ending up elsewhere.

"That was supposed to be one of Ear Drummers' assets," he said, referencing his imprint.

The tension resurfaced recently after French Montana suggested the song wouldn't have reached the same heights without his involvement — a comment that Mike WiLL described as "the ultimate slap in the face."

"How you gonna say the song wouldn't have been that big without you?" he said. "Don't nobody know your verse… why not big up Swae Lee?"

Adding another layer to the situation, French Montana recently revealed that despite the song's massive success (it’s certified 11x Platinum by the RIAA), he hasn't actually made money from "Unforgettable," citing the structure of his earlier label deal.
