Swae Lee has retracted previous comments he made about Kamala Harris, and admitted he didn't vote in the 2024 presidential election.
In a new interview with The Breakfast Club, which was shared on Friday (April 3) — the same day Swae's debut solo album, Same Difference, was released — the Rae Sremmurd rapper reflected on why he told his followers not to support Harris.
"At the time I disagreed with her, but I definitely will retract that statement," he told co-host Charlamagne Tha God, before wondering whether or not people took his advice seriously.
As for why he did it, Swae claimed that he was "just seeing some shit" that rubbed him the wrong way. "I started doing my own research and just looking at actual policies," he explained.
He then admitted that he didn’t actually vote in the US election that Harris was running in, before expressing regret over his actions. "Looking into it, it could have been propaganda," he reasoned about what he saw. "Going back, I wouldn’t have even spoke on it."
The "Unforgettable" hitmaker wrapped up his comments by expressing his frustration with the country's current political landscape. "What’s going now is fucked up," he said. "That’s why I never even stood with bro either."
Swae Lee’s comments rubbed a number of fans up the wrong way, with one X user branding him "a coward ass bitch" and screenshotting a previous message he posted that showed his support for Donald Trump.
"You better go look at the things trump did for blacks he’s actually done more than Biden and 80% of others the media portrays it one way the facts are right there to access I will make a list tomorrow if you need…I used to not pay attention but that last sleepy guy did damage," Swae appeared to write at the time.
Another user shared his Breakfast Club interview and wrote: "So he slandered Kamala for free to his followers, didn't bother to vote and is now unhappy with Trump. Sounds like a lot of people who were running their mouths in 2024. This is some ignorant shit."
A third person added: "They got @SwaeLee on the radio. Charla asked why did u tweet 'do not vote for Kamala'? He say he was googling and didn't agree with her policies. 'What policies?' Couldn't name not one. And that's how dumb n***as be."
In a since-deleted X post, Swae Lee wrote back in 2024: "Do not vote for Kamala !!! Do your research on that whole [campaign]."
